HIS­TOR­I­CAL and mytho­log­i­cal fic­tion is boom­ing Down Un­der — and it’s not just for the blokes, as these Nielsen Book ok fig­ures show:

It’s the big­gest grow­ing fic­tion genre over the past 15 years.

Last year it held 10.3 per cent of the fic­tion gen­res mar­ketet — its high­est on record.

It’s the fourth big­gest genre after crime/thriller, sci-fi/ fan­tasy and ro­mance. The Th best-sell­ers here are ar Brits Philippa Gre­gory, Conn Ig­gulden and Bernard Corn­well.

Aussie writ­ers HaHan­nah Kent (in­sin­set) and Kate GrenvilleG­renvi are fourth and fifth on the list.
