CONTINENTAL DELI NEWTOWN

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - 100 DELICIOUS -

210 Australia St, Newtown, 8624 3131, continental delicatessen. com. au From Porteño duo, Joe Valore and Elvis Abrahanowicz, Continental Deli is deli by day, bistro-with-a-twist by night. Each day the bar crew crack open cans of pre-batched cocktails in all our favourite blends: Cosmopolitans, Manhattans and Negronis. Bar staff are also skilled in the gilda, a Spanish tapa whereby a huge green olive is skewered with an oily anchovy (Ortiz, naturally) and a tangy slice of lemon. Outside the extensive offering of canned fish, charcuterie and impressive cheeses, the bistro turns out light, refreshing fare, with dishes like fennel with grilled runner beans, peanut pesto and chilli vinaigrette, and perfectly charred octopus served with a smattering of breadcrumbs.
