Christmas delivers jobs for thousands

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - THE SELL -

CHRISTMAS has come early for job seekers with news that Australia Post is recruiting almost 4000 workers ahead of what’s expected to be a recordbreaking festive season.

Australia Post last year delivered more than 40 million parcels in December alone — an 11.7 per cent increase on the previous year — including two record-breaking days, which saw three million parcels delivered in a single day.

This year is expected to be the biggest in Australia Post’s history, partly fuelled by a big spike in online shopping.

To help get parcels where they are meant to be, 2500 Christmas casuals will be hired across processing and transport.

There will also be an additional 1200 fixed-term roles available to serve customers in post offices, customer contact centres and across the delivery network.

Group chief executive and managing director Christine Holgate said the new people would be crucial.

“This is a record-breaking recruitment drive for what will be the biggest Christmas in Australia Post’s history, and as we set those new records, we are inviting people to be a part of it,” Ms Holgate said.

“Online purchases hit a record $27.5 billion in 2018, and upcoming online shopping sales like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Singles Day are set to be bigger than ever.”
