Precious patience proves a virtue

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - RACEDAY PREVIEW - MATT JONES

GERALD Ryan played the waiting game at the sales to get yesterday’s Royal Randwick winner Time Is Precious.

And when he got her for just $120,000 at the Magic Millions Sales, he was chuffed.

“Her grandmother went through the same draft as Savabeel — and Savabeel was the pick of the colts — and Rose Reward was the pick of the fillies, so I’ve always watched the pedigree and this horse came into the ring.”

Ridden by Glen Boss, the two-year-old began strongly, then given a breather before entering the straight helped Time Is Precious beat favourite Postcode by a long-neck.

“I wasn’t surprised she won because she just does everything right,” Ryan said. “She’s only had two jumpouts and one trial. When she got there so easily, I knew they’d be flatout running her down. She’ll be better at 1400m.”

She either goes to the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill in three weeks or the Magic Millions early next year.

Postcode’s co-trainer Adrian Bott said his horse would win one sooner rather than later.

“He probably lost that little bit of sharpness today that he had a fortnight ago,” Bott said.
