But where does Peter Gilmore — executive chef at arguably Australia’s best restaurant, Quay, and all-round food genius — pick as his ‘‘people’s choice’’?
The answer won’t be found on any awards or ranking list. Instead
Gilmore has given his nod to the unassuming Terrey Hills pizza joint Cavallino.
“We go there quite a bit for the pizzas obviously. It’s a nice family place,” says Gilmore, who admits that — on most of his nights off — he loves nothing more than a home-cooked barbecue. He’s also a yum-cha die hard. His fave? Manly’s Queen Chow.
