The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - WORLD -

IN A reversal of what usually happens when teenagers visit Hollywood, climate activist Greta Thunberg has had stars queuing up to embrace her.

She appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show, had a selfie with Arnold Schwarzenegger (who also offered her his electric car as transport) and had a glowing Instagram moment with Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio.

“There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways —– but Greta Thunberg has become a leader of our time,” DiCaprio wrote on Instagram.

“I hope that Greta’s message is a wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over. It is because of Greta, and young activists everywhere that I am optimistic about what the future holds. It was an honor to spend time with Greta. She and I have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet.”

DiCaprio runs the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which has also joined forces with other groups to form the Earth Alliance.

He describes this as “a new organisation to help address the urgent threats to our planet’s life support systems”.

He recently pledged $5 million towards helping fight the Amazon rainforest fires. However, he has also been criticised for using private jets.

Meanwhile, Thunberg faces a challenge to get back to Europe after Chile said it cannot host the UN Convention on Climate Change due to protests.

She has put out a call on social media asking for help to get to the new venue in Spain, without using planes. This will be tricky as the Atlantic Ocean in November can be highly dangerous to sail.

Leonardo DiCaprio has met with Greta Thunberg to promise they will work together on climate change.
