Tun­nel res­cue

EMER­GENCY Ser­vices were last night scram­bling to the aid of a worker trapped un­der­ground in the new For­rest­field-Air­port Link tun­nel.

Fire and res­cue crews were at the scene on Fricker Road at Perth Air­port and pre­par­ing to en­ter the tun­nel with stretch­ers about 6pm.

It is be­lieved the worker was trapped 20m un­der­ground be­hind pipework af­ter a high­pres­sure air hose rup­tured.

The con­di­tion of the worker was not known. The Pub­lic Trans­port Au­thor­ity has been con­tacted for com­ment.

The in­ci­dent was re­ported at 5.32pm. Res­cuers were ex­pected to lift the worker out us­ing a crane with a bas­ket.

The $1.86 bil­lion rail line will link new sta­tions at For­rest­field, Perth Air­port and Red­cliffe with Bayswa­ter.
