HOWZAT FOR STEVE SMITH
Wedding picture special
SIX months ago it would have been the Australian equivalent of a royal wedding. But yesterday, in the lengthy wake of cricket’s ball-tampering scandal, former Test captain Steve Smith tied the knot with long-time partner Dani Willis under far less media glare.
Smith and his beautiful bride exchanged vows in Berrima in the Southern Highlands of NSW, under a pastel pink floral arch. “Today I got to marry my best friend. What an absolutely incredible day. Dani Willis looked unbelievably beautiful,” Smith posted on Instagram.
The ceremony was a sports star-studded event with a guest list that included 29-year-old Smith’s former teammates Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Pat Cummins and Moses Henriques. Smith popped the question to Willis on top of the famous Rockefeller Centre in New York last year, before his controversial 12-month ban for ball tampering.
The date of the ceremony had been kept under wraps but Willis, a law student, had held two hens parties in recent months — one in Las Vegas and one in Sydney.
Her second hens night took place at Chin Chin last month, alongside girlfriends including spinner Nathan Lyon’s ex-partner Mel Waring. Both Willis and Smith have laid relatively low since the ball-tampering scandal. Smith, Dave Warner and WA’s Cameron Bancroft are serving lengthy bans.
