ROLLS-ROYCE has warned of new problems affecting about 200 of its engines, further damaging the engineer’s reputation for reliability.
The company said about one in 10 of its Trent 700 engines needs repairs because of corrosion to turbine blades. It told operators of the engine, which powers the Airbus A330 airliner, that the problem does not require an immediate fix.
A spokesman said the problem affects the high-pressure turbine on engines that have been “operating in a particular environment”.
Cracks in Trent 1000 engines used to power Boeing’s 787 jets two years ago led to aircraft being grounded.
