Golfers are heading to Royal
Six Goulburn Murray Golf Association (GMGA) players have qualified for the State Finals of Play 9 at Royal Melbourne on Sunday, November 4.
In one of the largest club golf involvements in Australia three men and three women will represent the GMGA for a chance to play at the Australian Open.
The Play 9 event is a nine-hole competition starting at individual clubs with the winners and runners-up for both men and women qualifying for the district final from which the three top players of each gender qualify for the state final at Royal Melbourne from which the top three men and women join the top three from all the other states for the Australian Championships held in conjunction with the Australian Open in Sydney in November.
The GMGA final was held on a well presented course at Hill Top Tatura last Sunday.
At presentations GMGA presi- dent David Roberts congratulated all the participants and successful players.
‘‘The association is thankful to all clubs who conducted Play 9 events and extremely pleased with the involvement which culminated in the largest district final in the state,’’ he said.
‘‘A true indication of the cooperation of participating clubs and players of the district.’’
Golf Australia regional officer Megan Carr announced the successful players while GMGA president and treasurer Alex Howson assisted with presentations.
Those going to Royal Melbourne next week for the women are: gold medal, Heather Frostick (21 points) from Nathalia Golf Club; silver Rhonda Rettke (20) CobramBarooga; and bronze Helen Emery (19) Kyabram Valley View.
The successful men to present GMGA are:winner Mark Corrigan (20) from Cobram-Barooga; second Freddy Barton (19) also from Cobram-Barooga; and Simon Doherty (18) from Merrigum.
The GMGA wishes all represen- tative players the best of luck for the state final.
The next GMGA event is the district Champion of Champions to be played at Shepparton on Sunday, November 18.
