Hats on and funds raised

The Tatura Guardian - - News -

The racing theme was heard loud and clear at the Rotary Club of Tatura’s annual Hat Night to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health.

More than 60 people attended the event at Tatura Bocce Club on Derby Day night, enjoying a threecourse meal and dressing to the nines.

‘‘To say the night had a racing theme, would not be an exaggeration with approximately $1500 raised on the night, a great effort by the club,’’ incoming club president Bill Purcell said.

The club paid special thanks to the major sponsors for the night, Peter Kennedy Landscaping and Jacobsons Coach Tours and also Debbie and Lou Worm for their successful third year.

‘‘The Tatura Rotary Club would like to thank all those who attended and made it so successful,’’ Mr Purcell said.

Rotary president Rod Schubert ran the auction with much humor and extracted the much-needed funds, followed by the announcement of race winners and the winner of the ‘‘prestigious’’ Tatura Cup — the Peter Schwarz Syndicate.

‘‘In the heavily contested best hat competition, Doug Tuhan took out first prize for the gents and Cecilia Fasano won the ladies,’’ Mr Purcell said.

‘‘We look forward to next year’s event being even bigger and better.’’

All smiles: Sponsors Lou Worm and Peter Schwarz get together with smiles in tow.

Best hat winners: Doug Tuhan, Jo Burgess and Cecila Fasano.

Funny: Rod Schubert ran the auction with much humor.
