As part of Transition Tatura’s ongoing commitment to all aspects of the environment, members got their hands dirty on Saturday picking up close to one cubic metre of rubbish.
Targeting Dhurringile Rd from the Hogan St roundabout through to Midland Hwy and Tatura Rushworth Rd, from the edge of town to the caravan park, members were disappointed by the amount of rubbish they found.
‘‘We have always been shocked and dismayed by the amount of rubbish collected every six months. Over eight previous clean-up days, we have collected an estimated 6000 bottles and cans and over 22 cubic metres of other rubbish,’’ Transition Tatura member Ross Musolino said.
Mr Musolino said as an ongoing activity other groups in the community were encouraged to join in future clean-ups or to adopt their own portion of road around town.
‘‘It would be great to have someone looking after Fer- guson Rd — and VicRoads supply all the vests, gloves and the bags that are taken directly to the transfer station,’’ he said.
After the clean-up the group headed to the Tatura Senior Citizens clubrooms for lunch and a debrief about the day.
‘‘Are we winning the war on waste? We might be, but we’ve still got a long way to go,’’ Mr Musolino said.
Good work: Transition Tatura members have picked up close to one cubic metre of rubbish.
