Merrigum golf:

The Tatura Guardian - - Sport -

Merrigum golfers contested a stroke round on Saturday, a day when numbers increased markedly in the face of a bit of light drizzle that arrived mid-round.

New recruit Ash Sanders had the round of the day, winning with a score of 80-14-66.

He has been in pretty good form lately and should be a likely prospect for Golfer of the Year even at this early stage.

Hopefully the handicapping system will relieve him of a shot or two to give a glimmer of hope to the rest of us.

Craig Doherty also had a good round and headed the ball competition with 67 nett.

He was joined by Andrew Wood who finished with 72 and beat Bill Bray on a count-back.

Nearest-the-pins were won by one of the four tougher golfers on the course, Bill Bray, who took the ninth and the jackpot 12th.

There was no twilight competition last week due to thunderstorms. It will resume this week but then have the week off between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

This Saturday’s event is stableford.

A merry Christmas to all and a happy and safe new year.
