The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - JM

A Very Kransky Christmas Comedy group the Kransky Sisters present their musical show A Very Kransky Christmas. Sydney Opera House, the Studio, Bennelong Point. Saturday, 2pm and 7.30pm. The Dance of Death August Strindberg’s script about a warring married couple is often comic, but its view of human relationships is bleak. Director Judy Davis’s provocative production brings out a further dimension, emphasising the metaphysical elements of the play. Colin Friels is superb as a nearly psychopathic Edgar who is frighteningly calm and controlled until he isn’t. Pamela Rabe as Alice gives a performance that is more comically abject than one may want in a 21st-century production of a play written in 1900, but she is very funny. Toby Schmitz as Kurt, the poor bastard who is sucked into this situation, has an initial strength that starts to crumble in the hands of this terrible couple. Belvoir St Theatre, Upstairs Theatre, 25 Belvoir Street, Surry Hills. Today, 2pm and 8pm. Tickets: $42-$77. Bookings: (02) 9699 3444 or online. Until December 23.
