Summer time and the living is easy-breezy at Regatta Restaurant and Bar beside the marina at Sydney’s Rose Bay and above casual Tide Cafe. Legendary chef Damien Pignolet, ex-Bistro Moncur, oversees a French-influenced, seafood-slanted menu featuring a selection of signature dishes, such as crab omelette with sorrel sauce and scallop souffle with lobster bisque reduction. Despite the miniMonaco position and all those glossy yachts and cabin cruisers, the mood is totally relaxed, especially at the bar and on the water-facing, open-sided veranda where happy hour rolls on from 4pm to 6pm Tuesdays to Fridays and wraps and rugs are provided on chilly nights. The Blue Room is popular for small weddings and events but most guests are here for the inventive cocktails and killer views, with lunch or dinner to follow. An elderflower spritzer or oceanfront margarita sounds just the shot this festive season. Take a ferry from Circular Quay to Rose Bay Wharf or hop a water-taxi. Plimsolls and nautical stripes optional. Lunch and dinner Tuesdays to Saturdays; lunch on Sundays lingers to a convivial 5pm. More: regattarosebay.com.
