Sum­mer time and the liv­ing is easy-breezy at Re­gatta Restau­rant and Bar be­side the ma­rina at Syd­ney’s Rose Bay and above ca­sual Tide Cafe. Leg­endary chef Damien Pignolet, ex-Bistro Mon­cur, over­sees a French-in­flu­enced, seafood-slanted menu fea­tur­ing a selec­tion of sig­na­ture dishes, such as crab omelette with sor­rel sauce and scal­lop souf­fle with lob­ster bisque re­duc­tion. De­spite the miniMonaco po­si­tion and all those glossy yachts and cabin cruis­ers, the mood is to­tally re­laxed, es­pe­cially at the bar and on the wa­ter-fac­ing, open-sided veranda where happy hour rolls on from 4pm to 6pm Tues­days to Fri­days and wraps and rugs are pro­vided on chilly nights. The Blue Room is pop­u­lar for small wed­dings and events but most guests are here for the in­ven­tive cock­tails and killer views, with lunch or din­ner to fol­low. An el­der­flower spritzer or ocean­front mar­garita sounds just the shot this fes­tive sea­son. Take a ferry from Cir­cu­lar Quay to Rose Bay Wharf or hop a wa­ter-taxi.
