There has been an out­pour­ing of sup­port from Cairns and the broader com­mu­nity, ral­ly­ing to en­sure Serer Ge Buai Giz – Au Esoau Ke­mer Ke­mer Uteb Narid (Cel­e­brat­ing Fam­ily – Thank­ing the Wider Com­mu­nity) is a joy­ful af­ter­noon bring­ing fam­i­lies to­gether in re­mem­brance of the eight Manoora chil­dren who died last year. This free pub­lic event will take place from 15.30pm on Satur­day at Broth­ers Foot­ball Ground, Stan Wil­liams Park, Be­han St, Ma­nunda. An evening con­cert fol­lows at 6pm, fea­tur­ing lo­cal artists and be­gin­ning with a per­for­mance by chil­dren from the Songs of Mur­ray Street project (above). The day’s events draw to a close at 8pm. A pas­toral ser­vice and tree-plant­ing cer­e­mony will be held in re­mem­brance the fol­low­ing day, Sun­day, from 11am-1pm at Green Park, Mur­ray St, Manoora. The event is fa­cil­i­tated by Red Cross Com­mu­nity Heal­ing Project.
