Country racing was at its finest on Saturday, October 7, for the Great Northern Hotel Bill Dawson Memorial Cup at the Gordonvale Turf Club. The blue skies made for a perfect backdrop against the 2000 racegoers wearing bright spring colours to the annual Cup Day.

This popular event is not just for the fashionistas. Patrons included backpackers and farmers who treated themselves to a rare day off. Bill Anderson has attended this local race meet since he was 15 years of age. Bill told us what keeps him coming back: “The beer is always cold and people are always nice.”
