Racing star at safety EXPO

CRAIG Lown­des fans will have the chance to get up close and per­sonal with the three-time Bathurst win­ner on Fri­day at the Cairns Show­grounds.

Lown­des is in Cairns for the Queens­land Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice Road Crash Res­cue Chal­lenge and Road Safety Expo in the Fred Moule Pavil­ion at the Cairns Show­grounds. Lown­des will be speak­ing in sup­port of the QFRS Roads At­ti­tudes and Action Plan­ning pro­gram that is de­liv­ered to year 12 stu­dents statewide. He also will be on hand to as­sist the stu­dents who will be op­er­at­ing driv­ing sim­u­la­tors dur­ing the event.

The expo is open from 9am to 4.30pm Fri­day and Satur­day with free ad­mis­sion. It in­cludes dis­plays by Po­lice, Am­bu­lance, Queens­land Trans­port, Main Roads, Cairns Re­gional Coun­cil, Q Rail, Q Health, JCU, CARZ Q, Cairns Ro­tary, Emer­gency Man­age­ment as well as Fire and Res­cue.

Spon­sors Ford and Holden pro­vide new cars for crush­ing in the Road Crash Res­cue Chal­lenge so Fire and Res­cue teams from through­out the State can test their skills and equip­ment rel­e­vant to ad­vances in new ve­hi­cle tech­nol­ogy, such as air bags and re­in­forc­ing fea­tures.
