MG car club out­ing to­day

LOOK out for a con­voy of MG sports cars and other mar­ques dur­ing the Cairns chap­ter of the MG Car Club of Queens­land’s reg­u­lar run to the Table­land to­day.

Club mem­bers and their cars will be gath­er­ing at the Cal­tex ser­vice sta­tion on the high­way at Gor­don­vale at 8.20am be­fore leav­ing 10 min­utes later for Her­ber­ton.

Chap­ter pres­i­dent Justin Ni­cholls said they would drive up the Gil­lies Range to Yungaburra, meet other mem­bers at the vil­lage be­fore head­ing to Ather­ton and then on to Her­ber­ton.

He said mem­bers would then visit the Her­ber­ton His­toric Vil­lage, fol­lowed by a BYO lunch in the vil­lage’s grounds. Mr Ni­cholls can be con­tacted on 0401 901 058 In the mean­time, the co-or­di­na­tors of the Com­bined Car Clubs of Cairns are in the process of ar­rang­ing a meet at the Ma­reeba War­birds on Sun­day, Au­gust 23.

“This will fol­low much the same for­mat as the re­cent first event at Gor­don­vale which was a huge suc­cess,’’ Mr Ni­cholls said.

“Or­gan­iser Neil Newcombe has been in con­tact with the own­ers of Ma­reeba War­birds who have agreed that all par­tic­i­pants who dis­play their ve­hi­cles on this day will re­ceive free en­try,’’ he said. The de­par­ture point will be at Smith­field.
