TO mark the open­ing of Westco BMW’s new work­shop, the deal­er­ship will launch the new BMW 7 Se­ries flag­ship as well as hav­ing on hand a se­lec­tion of high per­for­mance mod­els not nor­mally avail­able for test drives in Cairns.

The new work­shop will give cus­tomers and staff big­ger and more ef­fi­cient premises be­hind the cur­rent show­room and ser­vic­ing area in Newell St.

The 7 Se­ries will be launched at an in­vi­ta­tion-only cock­tail party in the BMW show­room on Fri­day from 7pm.

Two mod­els will be on dis­play, in­clud­ing the $203,000 740i.

Ini­tially, the 7 Se­ries will be avail­able in five mod­els, beginning with the 730d from $198,800 and top­ping with the $291,200 750Li.

All ver­sions fea­ture front seat ven­ti­la­tion, four zone au­to­matic cli­mate con­trol air­con­di­tion­ing, Com­fort Ac­cess, soft close doors and boot, an in­ter­ac­tive owner’s hand­book, satel­lite-nav­i­ga­tion, a high res­o­lu­tion full colour 10.2in screen, a TV, voice ac­ti­vated con­trols, a sixs­tacker DVD changer, 12-speaker HiFi au­dio, BMW Dakota leather in a choice of seven colours, in­te­rior trim fin­ish in a choice of four com­bi­na­tions and 10 metal­lic or two non-metal­lic paints.

En­gine choices are twin-turbo six cylin­der (240kW) and twin-turbo V8 (300kW) petrol en­gines and a 3.0-litre straight six turbo-diesel. It is the first time in Aus­tralia a diesel en­gine is avail­able.

This fifth gen­er­a­tion BMW 7 Se­ries will be avail­able in ex­tended-wheel­base guise in both petrol mod­els from launch, the 740Li and 750Li.

Prices are: BMW 730d $198,800, BMW 740i $203,000, BMW 740Li $218,000, BMW 750i $274,200 and BMW 750Li $291,200.

The high per­for­mance mod­els avail­able for test drives from May 28 un­til June 8 are a M3 sedan, a M5 sedan and a X6 35i 3.0 twin turbo.

The $152,300 M3 sedan dou­ble clutch auto is BMW’s most highly re­garded of the M se­ries. It fea­tures a 4.0-litre V8 with 309kW of power, a 0-100km/h time of 4.7s and an elec­tron­i­cally lim­ited top speed of 250km/h.

The $241,816 M5 sedan is pow­ered by a 5.0-litre V10 en­gine with 373kW, a 0-100km/h time of 4.7s and a 250km/h top speed.

The X6 35i 3.0 fea­tures the highly ac­claimed twin-turbo six cylin­der en­gine.

The $121,500 X6 has 225kW of power, a 0-100km/h time of 6.7s and a top speed of 240km/h.

V10 power: A $241,000 BMW M5 high per­for­mance sedan will be avail­able for test drives at Westco BMW next week.

Top of the range: The BMW 760Li will be the mar­que’s flag­ship with V12 power and an es­ti­mated price of $300,000-plus.
