THE Crowne Plaza in Canberra is celebrating the arrival of its first guest with an electric car.
It was a chance to fire up the hotel’s new electric car recharge station this week. The Crowne is among the first hotels in the world to offer an electric car charging facility.
The Tesla electric sports car was driven by Tesla Motors general manager Rudi Tuisk, who drove the car the 290km between Sydney and Canberra.
It marked the first time an electric car had been driven between two Australian capital cities without recharging enroute.
Both Rudi and the Roadster were in Canberra for the 2010 Canberra Electric Vehicle Festival.
The electric sports car accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and retails for about $225,000. Pictured above: Crowne Plaza Canberra general manager Matt Young (left) and finance director Sebastian Wilson with the Tesla Roadster.
