Convenient and affordable spot

ABOUT 10km south of the city centre is the large residential suburb of White Rock.

It was named after White Rock Peak (574m) in the Freshwater State Forest, which is 2.5km west of the Bruce Highway.

As of the 2006 census, White Rock had a population of 3873.

The suburb has a public housing area and a low-lying open space area which used to be a refuse tip.

White Rock is about a 15-minute drive from the CBD.

Sharon Vyner, office manager/ sales consultant, Ray White Cairns South says White Rock is in a good location, in between Woree and Edmonton.

“It’s handy to everything,” she says. “It’s close to shopping, especially the shopping centre with Kmart at Mt Sheridan.”

There are plenty of medical facilities, parks and walking paths in nearby locations as well.

Affordable property prices make this suburb a good choice for the first-home buyer, she adds.

White Rock Leisure Park is in the suburb and features a selection of cabins, budget units, powered caravan sites and shady campsites.

There is also a plant nursery and raw materials supplier.

There is a public swimming pool at the White Rock campus of Trinity Anglican School and it is open after hours.

White Rock has a convenience store and there are general shops in Woree and Bentley Park. Nearby Mt Sheridan Plaza has now expanded into a major shopping centre. Stockland Cairns, at Earlville, is less than 10 minutes’ drive north and has large grocery outlets, specialty stores and a cinema complex.

White Rock is serviced by Sunbus and local taxis.

SHOPPING

White Rock has a convenience store, but there is a large refurbished shopping centre in Mt Sheridan. There is a Piccones Supa IGA and Coles in Edmonton and Stockland Cairns Shopping Centre in Earlville.

CHILD CARE

There is a kindergarten and child-care centre in White Rock. Trinity Anglican School has its main campus here and there are other options nearby.
