Living on the city’s doorstep
IT doesn’t get much closer to the action of the CBD than Parramatta Park. This suburb is a great choice for those who want to find a traditional Queenslander-style home and be within walking distance of everything the city has to offer.
Lance Richards, senior sales agent at RE/MAX Real Estate Services says the suburb’s residents love it for its location.
“It’s so close to the city,” he says. “People live there for the convenient life. We have a timeshort life so the more convenient it is, the better it is.”
Parramatta Park is a favourite with owner occupiers as well as students.
Mr Richards says lots of people live upstairs and rent out downstairs rooms to students. There are also a number of recently built apartment complexes and plenty of renovated Queenslander homes and buildings. The suburb is also home to singles and young couples, many of whom enjoy the proximity to the city’s nightlife.
Parramatta Park is also a good choice for families, Mr Richards says.

lots of really good schools in the city,” he says. “It’s also close to sporting facilities.”
There are some lower-income options available in the suburb and it is considered to be quite multicultural.
Mr Richards says the suburb’s property market is holding its own as there is always interest in the area.
Sports and recreational facilities include Barlow Park, Little Barlow Park and the Cairns Showground. The suburb is just a short wander to all city facilities including Cairns Civic Theatre, Cairns Central Shopping Centre, Cairns Convention Centre, bars, restaurants and art galleries.
Parramatta Park is a mix of commercial, residential and recreational land use and has several schools.
There’s a state primary school, a Catholic primary school and St Augustine’s College, an all-boys Catholic boarding high school.
MEDICAL
Cairns Family Medical Centre is on Mulgrave Rd, with more facilities at Cairns Central Shopping Centre and the Cairns CBD. The closest hospitals are Cairns Base and Cairns Private, about five minutes’ drive east.
SHOPPING
Parramatta Park has several convenience stores. It is about five minutes away from Cairns Central Shopping Centre with two supermarkets, Target, Myer and lots of specialty stores.
CHILD CARE
There are child-care centres in nearby suburbs and Parramatta has a number of different schooling options.
