Lance has gift of the gab
WHEN it comes to skills on the auction floor, Cairns agent Lance Richards is making a name for himself as part of the RE/MAX group.
In front of almost 300 peers, Mr Richards finished runner-up in the 2015 Auctioneer of the Year title at the midyear RE/MAX Rally in Brisbane earlier this month.
Mr Richards – one of three finalists – put in a skilful performance as each competitor, in turn, auctioned a Queenslander through a number of “challenges” from the floor, and from an opening bid of $750,000 via some tricky mental arithmetical to the final fall of the hammer at $931,000.
The three performances were judged by RE/MAX Australia and New Zealand chairman Adrian Lane-Mullins, Australian Property Finance CEO Nathan Swain and RE/ MAX Australia and New Zealand managing director Michael Davoren.
Greg Parker from RE/MAX Regency on the Gold Coast claimed victory.
“It’s a friendly competition and everyone comes out a winner because the training, mentoring and feedback helps to further hone our auctioneering skills,” Mr Richards said.
Entering the competition began with a two- day training program with acclaimed auctioneer Jason Andrew, where RE/MAX auctioneers learnt how to run the perfect auction.
After a follow-up session the day before the RE/MAX Rally, the three finalists were selected to compete.
Mr Richards and RE/MAX Real Estate Services principal Tony Williamson were invited earlier in the year to share their auction acumen and strategies at a workshop organised by RE/MAX Australia’s Auction Chapter, a network- driven group with a focus on enhancing skills of people who have an interest in auctions.
“Auction is the marketing program of choice for savvy property owners around the country, and regardless of the role you play, be that auctioneer or auction marketing agent, everyone needs to be skilled in the process,” Mr Richards said.
“Jason Andrew’s auctioneer training program is the best in the industry and by encouraging course participants to compete for the top auctioneer award, there is a new energy, a new level of excitement and improved auction knowledge and skills will provide better outcomes for RE/ MAX vendors.”
