She’s the best in the country

- PASCO ROGATO

Even after more than 35 years in the industry, Ms North says she still enjoys the challenges of a sale.

“I really like using the expertise that I’ve accumulated in marketing, negotiating and all the skills you need to get someone, who has put that trust in you, a very important result,” she said.

“It is not just about the house, it is about that moment for them, and it is a privilege that they trust you to do that. Even after all this time, I still feel the responsibility of getting that result for them, of doing the best you can.

“I also like the way industry has involved to be more professional, and you have so many more marketing tools.

“When I first stared in real estate there were no fax machines, no internet, no mobile phones, nobody did open homes or even really advertised in the paper.”

She said her first sale was quite an experience.

“My first sale was in Bayview Heights. I met the buyers there, but the owners had forgot to leave me the key, so I climbed through a window to get in. The guy decided he wanted to buy it and he said he had $ 20,000 deposit in cash.

“I sort of freaked out, so I rang my boss to ask what I should do. He came over to sort it out.”

Elders state franchise manager Alan Dawson congratulated Ms Nor th on her award, trumping more 600 sales people across the country.

“Congratulations to Debbie on these awards, which again demonstrates her commitment and dedicated service to sales excellence for both buyers and sellers,” he said.

Ms North said she believed Cairns “punched above its weight” in a number of fields.

“When you look at some of the success stories, like Lora Jane, people in the arts and sports, and I think we have some of the top sales people here in the country.

“A friend of mine, she thinks that the reason is because Cairns lets you be yourself.

“I think she could be right. In a big city and large corporate environment I think it is hard to find that individuality in that sort of environment.”
