A HOUSE built by an American NASA engineer has hit the market for offers over $1.2 million.

Current owners Loredana Pizzichemi and her husband Frank bought the hillside house 12 years ago and have been renting the five-level property to holiday-makers for the past seven years.

“It’s been a very good property, it has beautiful views all the way to Green Island,” Mrs Pizzichemi said.

“I came here (Cairns) to renovate properties and we loved this house so we bought it.

“We lived in the house for five years before we rented it out.”

The former Sydney residents said the Trinity Beach home was far removed from the hustle and bustle of a capital city.

“I wanted to have a sea change, I always wanted to live by the water.

“It’s a very quiet street and it is the only property in Possum St that doesn’t have anything built in front of it.”

The multi-level mansion is one street back from Vasey Esplanade, has a double garage on the ground level, a selfcontained apartment with kitchen, deck and separate access on the elevated first level and a pool and timber sun deck on the second level.

The third level includes two bedrooms, kitchenette, large deck, sauna and spa while the fourth level houses the main kitchen, living space, and master suite which opens to the veranda.

The top level has an ensuite bedroom with a private sun deck.

“The house was built by a NASA engineer.

“He was American but it was his home.”

Mrs Pizzichemi said the engineer had since died but she met the engineer’s grandson.

She said her favourite feature of the house was the ocean view and how spacious the home felt.

“The main bedroom is 45sq m, it’s very big.

“We used to have family from Sydney come up, it’s very private, everyone has their own bathrooms and bedrooms.

“We have a lot of offers already but just not where we want it.”

Agent Nicholas Slatyer said the property had achieved $120,000 in holiday rental income.

“We are selling it more as a holiday rental business,” Mr Slatyer said.

“That little strip of Possum and Peacock (streets) are among the most tightly-held in Cairns.

“Trinity Beach is one of the more popular (beaches) for locals and people from down south. It has the amenities and it is a very pretty beach.”

The property is also being sold fully furnished.

Prior to 1 Possum St being sold in March last year for $1.1 million, the last property to sell on the street was in May 2011.
