Kitchen master recognised

-

Shaun Kilfoy began his journey to being one of Cairns’ most respected kitchen and cabinet makers more than a decade ago.

After his employer relocated in 2003, Shaun decided to go out on his own and established Shaun Kilfoy Cabinets and Joinery, working 18 hours a day, seven days a week from under his house. Over the past 13 years, Shaun’s dedicated work ethic and passion for his trade has helped the business continually expand from its humble beginnings.

At this year’s Master Builders Awards, Shaun and his team were extremely proud to take out the Best Residential Kitchen award for their work on the Marina Quay Project.

“It is very humbling to know that you’ve stood out amongst your peers,” he says.

Kilfoy Cabinets provided an entire design, manufacture and installation service for the project. The kitchen alone was a two-month construct and install process, with Kilfoy Cabinets working closely with the client to ensure the unique project would meet their expectations.

“The home owner is a keen sailor and wanted to incorporate this into the kitchen design wherever possible,” Shaun says.

“The island bench curve represents a full sail, while also looking like it is floating above water.”

Shaun says the island bench top is one of the kitchen’s standout features, along with hidden sliding doors that can be closed to hide everyday mess.

“Everything has a place and is hidden away from view,” he says. “With such a large family, this was important to the owners.”
