Your chance to secure a classic

This rare original Queenslander with amazing potential on a big central Cairns block is on the market for the first time in its 60-year history

QUEENSLANDER home enthusiasts will love this rare three-bedroom home on a large lot with a backyard, located in a bustling central Cairns suburb.

There’s not many homes on the market like 7 Gordon St, Earlville, as urban streets and lifestyles become confined to modern or renovated homes, on smaller blocks.

But this classic Queenslander stands tall in its original glory, with only minimal work on it since it was completed in 1960.

It has managed to sustain its originality, because after 60 years, it is only now entering the market for the first time, after remaining in the hands of one clan for six decades – the Skarott family.

Prominent Cairns businessman and current chairman of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health board Clive Skarott remembers moving into the property as a 17-year-old.

“Mum and Dad bought it in November 1959 and moved in February 1960,” Mr Skarott said.

“It’s definitely a big allotment compared to what’s out there, and it took a while to mow the lawn.

“There were four children and Mum and Dad.

As we all started buying cars, there was enough room there for all of us.

“Dad was a motor mechanic at Irelands and I remember we had enough room for him to work on our cars on the weekends.”

He said the only changes to the house were when the roof was changed and the toilet was moved to an internal one.

“It’s a very open and breezy home and Dad liked sitting on the front patio with Mum for a beer. Earlville is a great area to live in, it’s close to everything you need,” he said.

This house features classic timber flooring, currently under carpets and vinyl, but ready to be polished and restored. The spacious living area features casement windows and high ceilings and all three bedrooms offer plenty of space.

Sitting on an 875sq m block, downstairs is fully enclosed, allowing for two cars, but there is a huge undercover carport at the back for another two vehicles or a caravan.

It is within minutes of Stockland Shopping Centre, schools, sporting facilities and social clubs. With amazing potential to reap the rewards, this property is in a great position and will be snapped up quickly. The auction will be held on June 9 at 5.30pm at the Whitfield Chapel, 47 Heavey Crescent, Whitfield.
