TACKLING TOUGH ISSUES

Q Rugby league faces challenges and I have recently asked the question about how to take the game forward. What do you think needs to happen? A Things like seeing all juniors from under-6s to 16s playing in headgear. I noticed a carnival recently with two Townsville junior sides in headgear. I don’t know if it will happen though. Q There are still some rumbles in the league about how the local game is administered. Is it a fair process? A It’s human nature that not everyone will agree with what you do. We’re hear to fix things and we have one of the best competitions in Queensland. There are some people who are there for themselves and not their club. Some of the flak we cop is not very nice and it’s not needed, but we have to put our chin out and say ‘come and hit me again’. It’s hard d sometimes to not go and give someoneone a gobful. Q Have you set a timelinemeline of when you mightt hang up the boots? A Not yet. We have got a wonderful sponnsor in John Richardson and Ken Frost Homes. And we have e got Souths coming backck and then the World Cup, so I’m here for a while yet. Q Are there too many any teams in the CDRL? Theree were some real blowouts late e this season. A I think there’s a case there but it’s out of my control. ontrol. We’d have to have a look att the numbers. There are changes es coming with juniors because ause the under-20s are changing.ging. I don’t know how that is going g to play out.
