You’ll be really humming with a feed and a cold one

Usually I spend Christmas in a Christmas jumper in the cold playing board games, eating lots and getting drunk. This year I’m actually here to stay with my boyfriend and his family. We’ve got a big feast prepared, we’re going to be in the pool and we’re playing a bit of footy and cricket. doors to the public from 12pm tomorrow for a “tropical, yet traditiona­l Christmas”.

Event co-ordinator Lisa Cooper said it was one of the busiest days of the year. “It will be packed,” she said. “We have a lot of families come through and a lot of tourists with no family – so it is a good mix.”

The venue will have a condensed menu, with staples such as turkey, ham and a seafood plate available.

The city’s hotels are also putting on Christmas feeds fit I normally spend Christmas with family around the Christmas tree and eat a lot of Danish Christmas food like turkey and sweet potatoes. This year we have booked a table at a restaurant at The Pier, and we’ll get some drinks. for a king again this year, with the Hilton, Rydges Esplanade Resort and Pullmans expecting hundreds at their buffets.

The Pullmans’ lunch will cater for about 550 guests at lunch, 400 at breakfast and 200 at dinner where 13 chefs, dish out 290kg prawns, 180kg crab, 340 dozen oysters, 300kg of turkey and 80 hams. I spend Christmas with family usually, often staying with my grandparen­ts. It’s a small city. We used to get snow but the climate has changed so we don’t get so much snow anymore. Here we’ve just booked a table at a restaurant and we have a van so we’ll just sleep in a van after that. Otherwise we’ll just spend time at the Lagoon.
