Hatresses cap it all off

-

PARENTS are being advised to take advantage of New Year’s Eve early entertainment offerings to keep little ones awake until the big countdown.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said there would be plenty on offer at Fogarty Park to keep the youngsters busy tonight.

The sprawling park will play host to a wonderland of family-friendly fun this year with a Mad Hatter’s tent and free rides set to occupy children in the lead up to the evening’s first pyrotechnic display.

“The children’s entertainment goes right through until the 9pm fireworks, which are sure to be a hit with revellers of all ages,” Cr Manning said.

Alice and the Mad Hatresses will kick off the free live entertainment at 6pm in the tent.

The trio, featuring Rebecca Langtree, Rachel Bradley and Jasmine Bradley-Cadman, will perform their interactive music show for kids at 6pm. They will present a second show at 8pm.

“They can expect a lot of colour and a lot of fun and a lot of much madness with Alice and the Mad Hatresses,” Ms Bradley said.

“The kids can get up on stage and sing with us. We’ve got instruments and hats and accessories for the children to dress up with.”

Flip Ripley, in costume as a Mad Hatter, will present his magic show at 7pm. It will be followed by a juggling workshop for kids wanting to try their hand at the skill.

Children eager to flex their artistic muscle can visit The Queens of Arts, who will be doing arts and crafts at the rear of the tent.

“Children will be able to make their own Mad Hatter’s hat and wear that throughout the night,” said Ms Bradley.

Kids are also encouraged to get in on the evening’s fun by dressing up for the occasion.

“If you want to come dressed up for New Year’s Eve in a little Mad Hatter’s outfit or just dress up in something col- ourful (you can), just to add to the festivities of New Year’s Eve.”

Families will find rides set up on the lawn outside.

“Free rides will include Tarzan’s Trek double-storey jumping castle, Turbo Twister and a jumbo slide,” Cr Manning said.

Children’s New Year’s Eve activities and entertainment will be at Fogarty Park from 6pm-9pm
