‘The Crapper’ has club in the dumps
HE’S been dubbed “The Crapper”, a serial defecator who creeps through the West Cairns Bowls Club property after hours and leaves unwanted gifts on the patio.
Club staff have posted a screenshot to Facebook of CCTV footage capturing a young man allegedly in the act.
The footage shows him strolling in, urinating in the gardens, then dropping his trousers and defecating before wiping up with a coaster and flinging the faecal frisbee on to the bowling green.
Club manager Helen Allen said volunteers had been forced to clean up after the unwanted visitor several times in recent months.
The Facebook post had received more than 80,000 views by 11am yesterday.
“If it had been a robbery, we’d be lucky to get a hundred people look at it,” Ms Allen said.
“I think the community is outraged and disgusted.”
The club is no stranger to break-ins and vandalism, with live-in caretaker Ted Skipp having to chain his windows shut after burglary attempts.
Yesterday morning he found a new pushbike dumped in the club gardens.
“I was broken into twice within a few weeks,” he said.
“You get tables and chairs thrown in the garden.
“I want to get a neighbourhood watch going in the area. I think people would want to be part of it.”
Ms Allen said West Cairns was a bowls club on the rise with about 150 people attending their Wednesday night barbecues and huge volunteer efforts to keep the grounds in immaculate shape.
But Westcourt’s high crime rate is always on her mind.
She said the police were often too busy to properly investigate her calls.
“What is it with this generation?” she said. “They’re bored, I don’t know what it is.”
Police have been asked for comment.
