plaining about their mates.”

Ms Doran eventually resigned from her position in 2015 and became a midwife at Cairns Private Hospital.

She moved to the UK later that year to care for a sick family member, where she has remained.

Encountering difficulties returning to Cairns Hospital to regain employment, she has made a formal complaint to the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS).

She called for an independent investigation into workplace bullying across the health service.

“The hospital needs a team of totally independent investigators and a team of outside managers to come in and stand all those involved down and make staff feel safe enough to talk about what’s happened to them,” she said.

“These bullies need to be prosecuted for their continuous and wanton destruction of good nurses and their careers.”

The CHHHS has been working with the Queensland Nurses Union and maternity staff to address all recommendations that have arisen out of a recent review of the unit and its workplace issues.

The health service’s chief executive, Clare Douglas, said meetings between staff, the union and management went very well.

“Our maternity staff have reported that morale is high within the unit,” she said.
