KNOWING THE HISTORY

-

A A lot of stuff – it is pretty broad. The appetite for literature is there a lot more as I get older. I have been caught up reading a fair bit of stuff around the Flanagan family, Richard and Martin Flanagan. Martin is an Australian journalist and author (pictured, on right) who until a few weeks ago wrote on sport for The Age, with particular focus on Australian rules football. The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard is a great book. Just understanding the history and some of the characters there. I can get caught up in the history about Tasmania and World War II.

Q What are you reading at the minute? Q I heard a whisper Martin was writing a book on the 2016 premiership.

A He was, in connection with the club, mainly through our skipper Bob Murphy. Adrian Brown came in and started filming and he did a few docos for us and most of it was centred about Bob and the fact that 2015 was probably going to be the last year. He was in everything, every team meeting, pre-game and post-game, with me talking for two years. He has all this material and he is currently making a documentary. We are pretty fortunate because it was a little bit ridiculous the way it happened in the end. I do not think too many clubs would have been fortunate or have the accidental circumstances to have the footage. He is not far away from finishing the doco, which everyone is keen to see.
