NOVELTY NO MORE

-

Q

Do you feel like women’s rugby league was once treated as a novelty? Has that now been blown out of the water?

A

I guess having played for quite a while now, back when I first started women’s rugby league was seen as a bit of an exhibition, so to see where the game has come from and to be a part of that, I feel so fortunate. It really has taken off, not only women’s rugby league but women’s sport in general has really taken off over the last couple of years, not just my game. It’s just wonderful to see so many female athletes out there having the confidence to give sport a go and gaining some recognition and again inspiring other girls to take up sport. The more people we have in sport, not only is it better for our community, but North Queensland as a whole.

Q

What do you think about the buzz around this World Cup? How big is it that every game is going to be televised?

A

This is the first time the Women’s World Cup has been held in conjunction with men’s. That itself is a big first for our game moving forward. It’s just great, now we’re receiving the same right down to preparation, so all those things are going to be great for us. The only difference is we’re playing a game every three days, hence why we’re taking every chance to recover and that’s certainly going to help. We’re going to need it. I’m no spring chicken any more so I think the coaching staff are preparing for a few players to be rested for certain games, but we’ve got good depth to go out there and get the job done.
