SAMUEL REALISES DREAM

-

HE’S gone from thinking university was unattainable to mapping out a career path that includes postgraduate research. Samuel Grey is living proof that anything is possible.

The 29-year-old, who’s studying CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Paramedic Science will become the first person in his family to graduate from university when he completes his degree next year.

“When I finished Year 12, I personally thought uni was out of the cards for me,” Mr Grey said.

After enrolling in Certificate IV in Training and Assessment after school, he soon realised higher education was attainable.

“I worked in security in South Africa and most contracts over there, you’re required to do ambulance volunteering.

“I was exposed to epic amounts of trauma. I developed an appreciation in helping people and it was then that I realised that pre-hospital care was a career I wanted to take.”

Mr Grey said he started looking for course options online and stumbled across CQUniversity’s paramedic science degree, enrolled soon after and is now about to begin his second year in the course.

“It’s amazing – exactly what I wanted,” he said.

“All the lecturers at the uni are just fantastic and supportive and they’re willing to do extra for you – you can see it’s a passion for them too which makes such an impact.”

Proving anything is possible, Mr Grey said he was now thinking about a masters of research, something he never dreamt he’d be saying.
