ALISON Krause’s passion for education has propelled her in to a leadership position at St Mary’s Catholic College.
She said the “great deal of variety” had kept her in the career for 16 years.
“It’s not an exaggeration to say that a great teacher can change a student’s life. I had great teachers and that inspired me to want to join the profession,” she said.
“I have a great deal of variety in my job. It offers the ability to be creative, problem solve but fundamentally educators are able to affect broad aspects of their students’ lives, teaching them the important life lessons that will help them succeed beyond exams and assignments.
“In a world that’s driven by profit and consumerism, education gives a greater meaning and purpose that is more valuable than just economics.
“Often people struggle to find meaning in their profession. Many organisations function for profit only.
“In education we have the privilege to focus on empowering people, developing their academia, and emotional and ethical understanding.
“Giving young people the skills to find a pathway and give back to our community in a positive way is very rewarding.”
With Bachelor degrees in music and education, a recently completed a diploma in marketing and communica- tions and in the midst of a Master of Education and Leadership, the learning has not stopped for Ms Krause.
She said the constantly changing education environment kept her on her toes.
“The education landscape is always changing which can be challenging to navigate,” she said.
“Educators are responsible for more than just academic enrichment. It’s a job that requires flexibility, mental agility and a sense of humour.”
