THIS rising culinary star is set to rub shoulders with cheffing hot shots in Malaysia.

Shangri-La hotel chef apprentice Alec Stemmler, 20, impressed the Australian Culinary Federation so much they are helping him attend the 2018 World Chefs Congress in Malaysia in July.

Mr Stemmler caught the ACF’s eye when he competed in the Nestle Golden Chefs Hat award in 2016 and 2017.

“He has very good skills and a lot of potential,” ACF North Queensland president Brian Down said.

“He is going to be one of the great chefs of the future.”

Seven thousand chefs and 70 competitors will attend the congress in Kuala Lumpur.

“Alec will meet some of the great chefs from around the world,” Mr Down said.

The ACF and Shangri-La hotel are both helping pay for the six day trip.

“I have been working with chefs for 20-30 year. You can see he has potential,” Mr Down said.

“He is a quiet achiever.”
