Fund opens laptops for indigenous students

-

ALICIA NALLY A CAIRNS school will use a $10,000 grant to buy laptops for its indigenous students.

Redlynch State College was one of eight schools across the country to receive the money from the HP Kids Fund.

Indigenous support officer Rod Peckham said the technology would inspire students to go on to further education.

“These laptops will suit a range of subjects like graphics and will expedite learning in the school’s virtual learning environments,” he said.

Executive principal Tony Fuller said teachers were working to evolve methods beyond “chalk and talk” and were increasingly turning to such technology for virtual learning.

“If this grant can change the life prospects of one or more of our indigenous students then the HP Kids Program is a great success,” Mr Fuller said.

HP Australia is accepting second-round applications for the HP Kids Fund.
