PICKING HIS BATTLES

Q AIt may surprise some people to hear that you’re not training at the moment.

The right fight has to come up. It’ll come but you can’t just put your life on hold. It’d have to be someone in the top 10 or something that’d get me in the frame for a world title fight. I want to fight undefeated guys. It’s hard for me because I’m a tough fighter to match up with and I’m undefeated. At the same time, I’m not a name that’s going to generate money necessarily for them. I’m an awkward fighter. The risks probably outweigh the rewards for a lot of people.

That and the boxing world got really busy after the Jeff Horn fight. I was offered one good fight but they didn’t give me enough time to prep. I’ve got family and I haven’t got massive sponsors so I can’t sit in the gym 24/7.

Q AWho was the fighter?

His name is (Erick) De Leon but they wanted me to fight six weeks after they told me. I can’t even make weight in six weeks. It’s like ‘give me a chance’. I’m just out here doing it all by myself.
