Frayne’s long odds

AUS­TRALIAN Henry Frayne fin­ished sixth in a stun­ning men’s long jump com­pe­ti­tion at the Di­a­mond League ath­let­ics meet in Rome yes­ter­day. Reign­ing world and Com­mon­wealth cham­pion Luvo Many­onga from South Africa won the event with a huge leap of 8.58m – the big­gest in the world this year. Juan Miguel Echevar­ria from Cuba pushed Many­onga all the way be­fore be­ing forced to set­tle for sec­ond spot with a per­sonal best of 8.53m. Frayne’s best jump of 8.15m in the sec­ond round was 19cm short of the PB he set for sil­ver at the Com­mon­wealth Games.
