EVA Grabner had to be talked into her job as a recruiter.

The Elite Executive managing director has been in the industry for 10 years and has owned her own business for six of those.

A job recruiter is a human resources professional tasked with identifying and pursuing candidates for potential job openings.

Ms Grabner said placing the right person in the right job was never on her radar.

“Luckily, I found my passion and absolutely love what I do,” she said. “Previously I worked in the hospitality and tourism industry around the world managing a variety of large hotels and resorts.

“My father was a chef so it was natural for me to follow in the same industry.

“I trained in Austria, as I am half Austrian, and worked in a ski resort for many years before joining cruise ships.

“I worked my way up in the purser’s department from front desk to human resources and crew relations to guest relations, finance and then chief purser.”

With nothing more than a HR certificate, a gift of the gab and many years of experience in a field full of different people, Ms Grabner was able to launch into a new career.

She said most of the time cruise boat staff spoke English as a second language, so she learnt to read body language.

“This has definitely been an advantage in recruitment as I can read people well,” she said.

“We place people into new positions with great organisations. It really doesn’t get much better than that. I am usually more excited than the candidates when I call them to say they’ve been successful.

“I get so much pleasure from seeing people walk into their new business and really love it and grow and then, of course, the business thrives under good leadership.”
