-

CONTROVERSIAL Sydney businessman Salim Mehajer has been led away from court in handcuffs after being ordered to serve 11 months behind bars for electoral fraud.

Magistrate Beverley Schurr jailed him for 21 months, ordering he be released after 11 months. She previously had found him guilty of 77 charges related to a joint criminal enterprise with his sister Fatima to influence the 2012 Auburn City Council vote.

His lawyers indicated they would lodge a sentence appeal later yesterday.
