TTNQ initiative­s put spotlight on Japan

TOURISM Tropical North Queensland chief executive Pip Close’s first trip to Japan has sparked a renewed focus on the Asian market.

Ms Close was asked about the health of the Great Barrier Reef, activities to protect it, and marketing activities in Japan including the launch of the new Japanese website for Cairns and Great Barrier Reef.

The website will share Japanese influencer­s’ stories as part of a 101 Stories promotion next financial year drawing attention to www.tropicalno­rthqueensl­and.org.au.

The launch of a new Japanese Instagram account was also announced during the trip. This will be a collaborat­ion between industry and academia with college students from TTNQ’s partner Jikei Gakuen assisting when it is launched in September.

TTNQ’s new ambassador program was announced.

Called Cairns-ko, meaning Friends of Cairns, it will appoint 101 Friends of Cairns over the next two years. These could be trade staff or consumers who love the Cairns and Great Barrier Reef region.
