ANGLING FOR AN ADVENTURE

-

TAKE a trip out to the beautiful blue tropical waters of the Far North and spend a day basking in the sun as you try to land that next big fish. Cairns is the closest major port to the magnificent Great Barrier Reef. As such, it’s the perfect place to try out a reef fishing charter. Reef fishing is commonly called “Bottom Bouncing” where anglers use heavy 60-100lb handline techniques to target such prized eating fish as coral trout, red emperor, sweetlip and nannygai. You may also drift a ganged pillie (small baitfish) for spanish mackerel, great light tackle sportfish and excellent on the chew as well. This style of fishing is not for every one but gives the angler

the best possible chance to land these superb fighting and tasty fish. Share charters generally run daily, depending on prevailing weather conditions, and depart Cairns (Marlin Marina) and Port Douglas (Marina Mirage) at about 7am and return at about 5pm. WHAT GEAR: A fishing rod, a hat and sunscreen and some comfortable clothes. Most chart operators include all tackle and bait, cold drinks, water and buffet lunches. Be sure to check when you book

HOW MUCH: Fishing Cairns offers a number of full day share reef charter options from $260 per person WHO TO CONTACT: Call 0448 563 586 or email info@fishingcairns.com.au
