struction last season.

But the Bunnies’ new custodian was forced to earn his spot off the back of a gruelling preseason spent in the gym.

“To play a fullback role at the top grade consistently has been what I’ve always wanted,” Johnston said.

“To get to finally play there is really helping my confidence a lot.

“There’s a lot more running involved at fullback. As I’m get- ting older, I’m filling out naturally but I’ve also tried to add some weight.

“I think I’ve got a kilo or so to go to get to my goal weight. I’m playing at around 93kg but during the preseason I was about 95kg.

“I wanted to make sure I added power without losing any speed or agility. I’m definitely lifting a lot more weights this year to make sure I hit my tackles just that little bit harder.”

The Bunnies will be looking to extend their winning streak to eight games tomorrow against the Cowboys.

“I think the feeling within our camp is everyone is really good at the moment,” Johnston, 23, said. “Everyone is enjoying themselves. There’s not much stress. It’s different to (our premiership season) in 2014 but compared to last year, obviously, it’s a lot better.”

The 96-game veteran whose grandmother hailed from Saibai Island, said he took extra motivation heading into this weekend’s clash knowing so many Torres Strait Islanders will be at Barlow Park this weekend.

“It motivates me to play my best footy. It’s my background and my nan would be very proud,” he said. “My family history is certainly something I want to look into more one day.”
