- JORDAN GERRANS

ATHLETES Jessica Frape and Liam Eastgate will carry the bragging rights as the quickest runners in the Far North after claiming the Dash for Cash at the recent Coral Coast Track and Field Carnival.

The Dash for Cash is one of the feature events at the carni- val, which was held last weekend at Barlow Park, and is run over 300m with the winner taking home $300, with second handed $200 and third $100.

Cairns Athletics runner Frape took out the women’s division while Eastgate, from Tablelands Athletics, took out the men’s prize.

“The Dash for Cash is where all the gun sprinters from a range of age groups line up for a 300m dash for the cash,” Luke Jackson from Cairns Athletics said.

“It shows the great pedigree and speed of the really good sprinters from across the region.

“There is plenty of interest in the race and its one of the highlights of the Carnival.”

Barlow Park hosted about 300 athletes from more than a dozen cubs and the annual event drew nearly 1000 people including family and supporters of the athletes.
