Kennels bursting at the seams

-

KENNELS at the Young Animal Protection Society in Cairns have reached their capacity with about 50 puppies and dogs in care.

Kennel attendant Bec Garlick said the facility received many calls each day for surrenders and strays as well as as- sisting council and the pound.

She said thankfully there were some adoptions yesterday, but nowhere near enough.

“Because we’re ‘no-kill’ we have to wait for dogs to get adopted before we can get more in,” she said.

“With RSPCA still being shut, we’re the only shelter in Cairns.”

Anyone considering adopting a furry friend is encouraged to visit YAPS. The facility is open daily from 9.30am to 4pm at 233-239 McGregor Rd, Smithfield. Visit www.yaps.org.au for details.
