BILL’S CUP STAKES

- JORDAN GERRANS

CAIRNS BUILDER HAS SHARES IN DREAM HORSE

KINGS Will Dream is set to provide Cairns builder Bill Anderson an exciting ride through the Spring carnival.

Anderson has a small share in the Darren Weir-trained stayer who is assured a Caulfield Cup start and also has ambitions of a place in the race that stops the nation.

The chestnut will go around in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) this afternoon as he builds towards the Cups, with Anderson on course at Flemington today.

The former Ireland-based gelding still has work to do to run in the Melbourne Cup.

The order of entries for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups were released on Wednesday with Kings Will Dream exempt from the Caulfield Cup ballot, courtesy of his Mornington Cup win.

“I have found a good one here. I have had a few decent ones in the past, but this one is giving us an exciting ride at the minute,” Anderson said.

“There was not many shares left in this horse but a mate and I got together and we bought them.”

Anderson has achieved suc- cess in the North – winning the Cairns Amateurs with Tanaka and the Newmarket with El Messiah in 2007.

Earlier this week, betting agencies had Kings Will Dream favourite for the Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Melbourne Cup (3200m) at $4.60 and $10 respectively.

“He was bought for the Cups and that is what got us excited,” Anderson said.

“Most horses we buy are sprinters but finally we have found one that can go the distance.”

Kings Will Dream sits 53rd in the Melbourne Cup order.
