Ninth case of dis­ease

A TEENAGE boy has been hos­pi­talised with meningo­coc­cal in Tas­ma­nia, the state’s ninth case of the dis­ease in two months.

The 15-year-old from Launce­s­ton has con­tracted the B strain and is in a sta­ble con­di­tion, pub­lic health ser­vices clin­i­cal di­rec­tor Fa­line Howes says.

A teenage girl from Ho­bart died from meningo­coc­cal in July, while a four-year-old girl from the state’s north­west was di­ag­nosed with the B strain ear­lier this week.

Pub­lic health ser­vices said there were “no links” be­tween the cases.
